Verse and color illustration for each letter of the alphabet, which taken together make a story about Arthur and his family. Interspersed are upper and lower case alphabets and lists of two-, three-, and four-letter words. Page 4 of wrapper includes advertisements for the following series: New picture books for little children, Aunt Louisa! big picture series--31 kinds, Uncle Ned's picture books, Gilt cover picture books, Golden light series, and Half-hours with the Bible. Estimated publication date based on publisher's advertisements: Gilt cover picture books and Golden light series were listed as new in McLoughlin's 1871 catalog; the Aunt Louisa big picture series included 50 titles by 1875.
